1. Overview

This policy explains what information TeachTimeLab collects, how we use it, and your rights. We handle personal information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).

2. Information we collect

Account details — your name, email, school, mobile phone number, and password (stored hashed).
Billing details — subscription status via our payment processor, Stripe. We do not store your card numbers.
Documents you upload — the student work you submit for marking, plus the evaluations TeachTimeLab produces. This content is processed to generate marking assistance and is not stored on our servers; see Sections 6 and 7.
Usage data — basic logs needed to operate and secure the service.

3. Student data & anonymisation

TeachTimeLab is designed for anonymised work. You should remove student names before upload; the service is built to work with student codes rather than identifiable names. You are responsible for ensuring you are authorised to upload any document. We do not use student work to train AI models.

4. How we use information

We use the information we collect to provide and improve the service, process the marking you request, manage billing, communicate with you (e.g. password resets and service emails), and keep the service secure.

5. AI-assisted marking (automated processing)

TeachTimeLab uses artificial intelligence, via Anthropic's API, to help generate marking suggestions and feedback on the documents you upload. This processing is substantially automated, but TeachTimeLab does not make final marking or grading decisions — the teacher reviews, edits, and confirms all marking outcomes before they are used or communicated to a student.

Because the output of this AI-assisted process may inform decisions that affect a student's academic results, we disclose this process consistent with the Privacy Act's requirements for automated decision-making. If you have questions about how the AI-assisted marking process works, contact us using the details in Section 12.

6. Third parties & overseas disclosure

We share the minimum necessary information with providers that run the service, including our hosting and database provider, our payment processor (Stripe), our email provider, and the AI provider (Anthropic) that generates marking suggestions. These providers process data on our behalf under their own terms.

Some of these providers, including Stripe and Anthropic, may process information on servers located outside Australia, including in the United States. By using TeachTimeLab, you acknowledge that personal information may be disclosed overseas for this purpose.

The student work and evaluations you process through TeachTimeLab are not stored on our servers. They are sent to Anthropic's API for processing and are not retained by TeachTimeLab afterwards. Because we do not store this content ourselves, its handling during processing is governed entirely by Anthropic's own privacy policy, which we encourage you to review.

7. Retention & deletion

Student work and the evaluations TeachTimeLab produces are not stored on our servers; they are processed transiently via Anthropic's API and are not retained by us afterwards.

Account information (name, email, school, phone number) is retained for as long as your account is active. You can delete your account at any time, which removes your associated account data. To request deletion, use the option in Settings or email us.

8. Security

We use industry-standard measures including encrypted transport (HTTPS) and hashed passwords. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information.

9. Data breaches

If we experience a data breach that is likely to result in serious harm to affected individuals, we will notify affected individuals and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC), in line with the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme.

10. Children's privacy

TeachTimeLab is intended for use by teachers and other adult educators, not by children or students directly. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

11. Your rights

You may access, correct, or delete your personal information, and you may complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) if you believe we have mishandled it. Contact us first and we'll try to resolve it.
